Diane Haworth and Michael Varbaek - Rancho Santa Fe Farmer's Market

A passion for helping others is the upon which the Rancho Santa Fe Farmer’s Market was built.

After traveling abroad and experiencing the sense of community and togetherness in villages they visited, Diane Haworth and Michael Varbaek had a mission to bring people together. After seeing that their was a void in communities in western cultures, they decided to take a chance and create that village atmosphere here in San Diego. They wanted to build a community gathering place, a farmers market with the same atmosphere as the places they had visited.

Today the Rancho Santa Fe Farmer’s Market is one of San Diego’s most popular weekend destinations. Every Sunday at 9:30 a.m., what is usually an empty lot transforms into a vibrant farmer’s market.

Customers get to know the farmers who grow the fruits and veggies being sold there. Some shoppers come back every week to get fresh produce and enjoy the family-style market. Customers can also enjoy live local music and pick from an assortment of fresh flowers, and various handmade crafts.

The Rancho Santa Fe Farmer’s Market was designed to provide a weekly gathering place for visitors to nourish their mind, body and soul. Diane and Michael say their goal is to give the community tools to add years to their lives.
