Heath Bell - Journey to the Big Leagues
Major League Baseball All-Star Heath Bell made a name for himself playing on the East Coast, but fate brought him back to his Southern California roots. Following the ups and downs of this MLB career will leave you inspired.
While growing up in Southern California, Bell and his father loved going to baseball games to watch the San Diego Padres, the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Anaheim Angels play. When Bell was just five years old, he told his dad that one day he was going to play for the San Diego Padres. His dad smiled and laughed; little did he know that dream would come true one day.
Bell got his first big break when he was drafted to play into the MLB to play for the New York Mets. After a series of exciting moves, moments of heartbreak and unexpected surprises, Bell returned to SoCal in 2007 to fulfill his dream: suiting up to play for the Padres.
Since retiring from the MLB in 2015, the three-time All-Star now coaches a traveling little league team. He has a strong message for kids who are passionate about sports: work hard and stick with it until you achieve your goals.
During this episode from season one of The Block, the former Padres pitcher shares what he learned on his motivational journey to the big leagues.
